Check out our popular Peter and the Wolf course today!

Nov 05, 2020

Happy Birthday to Clap for Classics! Online. A celebration of us, and a gift to you!

Our blog is turning 1 year old! Hooray! We have shared quality music resources for parents and caretakers of young children every week for a year! Every week we’ve posted a video for you to watch with your kiddo (or watch on your own, then share the content with your kiddo), usually accompanied by helpful tips and information. We are super proud of ourselves for keeping this up, and to celebrate we have some gifts to give you. All month we’ll be offering 20% off coupons for our online courses, featuring a different course each week.

This week’s promotion is the Peter and the Wolf Course Bundle-- we’re starting with this one, because it has been the most popular with our subscribers. Parents have just raved about how much their children have loved getting to know Peter and the Wolf with us, and how much they have learned in the process. One subscriber mom even told us that two of her kids were dressing up as wolves for Halloween because of it!

The Peter and the Wolf Course Bundle comes in 2 parts. Here’s a detailed description of what is included in each part.

Part 1 -- Peter and the Wolf: Meet the Characters

In this section, we get acquainted with the characters of the story and their instrument counterparts.

  • The course (like all of our courses) starts with a welcome video to parents, to give you an overview and help you prepare for successful music time with/for your kids.
  • The “main” section is a series of short videos, each featuring one song or activity, taught by Elizabeth, often with her 4 year old helper, Charlotte. This month we have one song per character in the story -- the “bird” song features bell playing, the “cat” song is a pass-the-hat game, the “duck” song is a cute action song, the “grandpa” song is a feelings song, the “wolf” song is a musical hide and seek activity -- this gives you an idea of the variety of activities we use to engage your child with music. In this course, we also teach which instruments match up with which characters, using videos of professional musicians.
  • Don’t miss the “bonus videos” section, which includes
    • guessing game videos, for kids to practice identifying the instruments and the characters from “Peter and the Wolf”
    • Videos demonstrating how to adapt some of the activities for babies
    • A video explaining all of the ASL signs we used in the course
  • This is one of our favorite sections: “Meet the Instruments” features videos of professional musicians introducing their instrument to our audience in a simple, fun way, including clips of classical repertoire.
  • Can you believe there is still more?? We have printable puppets and coloring pages for the kids, a printable “program” for parents (with lyrics and instructions), downloadable audio tracks, and written extension activity suggestions to continue the learning process beyond our videos.

Part 2 -- Peter and the Wolf: A Musical Adventure

  • We dive into the details of Prokofiev’s music and create fun ways for your littles to engage more fully with it (for example, sneaking around like a cat, stomping your feet grumpily to the Grandpa’s theme music, using rhythm sticks to “snap” the wolf’s jaws as he tries to catch the bird).
  • We also have supplemental songs such as classic folk songs: “Over in the Meadow” and “Little Bird”, and an original 5-senses song: “Let’s Go On An Adventure”.
  • “Forte” the Lion puppet returns, and we meet a new friend “Piano” the cat. Together, they teach us a fun lesson about the musical concept of “crescendo”.
  • We explore feelings some more this month, with a sampling of music from Peter and the Wolf, encouraging children to think about how the music makes them feel in a fun guessing game format.
  • We have a new “Meet the Clarinet” video, as well as a “Meet the String Quartet” video with professional musicians introducing us to their instruments.

Hope you’ll consider purchasing the Peter and the Wolf Course Bundle for yourself, or as a gift for a friend or relative! It is a perfect introduction to what we do here at Clap for Classics!
