Ice Skating with Vivaldi's "Winter"
Jan 05, 2022Grab some paper plates and clear some space while you join Ms. Elizabeth and Charlotte as they enjoy this chilly wintry music from Vivaldi’s “Winter.”
How to adapt/extend:
- Talk with your child about what might be happening in the musical story as you listen and “skate” around.
- Try an ice-themed sensory experience while you listen to this movement:
- Paint the Ice (from Days with Grey)
- More sensory ice play ideas from Workspace for Children
- Read the sonnet that Vivaldi wrote to accompany this movement:
- 'To glide on the ice; slowly for fear of falling; to go fast, to slip and fall down, to go even faster until the ice cracks and breaks; to hear Sirocco, Boreas and the Winds issuing from their iron gates and making war: that is winter, and it brings joy.'
- Listen to the audio version of this piece, while reading a winter-themed book. It could enhance your reading experience and sneak some classical music into your day!
What your child is learning:
- Gross motor skills
- Active listening
