The Mountain King Game

Oct 27, 2021

There is something so magical about engaging with a child in musical play.  So much connection, creativity, and learning is happening.

This is just one of many musical games that we have created that are found inside our membership.  Kids absolutely love the interaction, and parents love that it's simple enough to learn it quickly.  We have a feeling this will quickly become a favorite in your home as it is in ours!

Enjoy this original song/game inspired by the melody and story of Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King."

Listen to Episode 31 of our podcast to enjoy this activity as well as an activity with the Classical piece.  Find it here, or search "Clap for Classics" wherever you listen.

How to prepare:

  • Clear space to move around
  • This is a game for 2 or more people - you may want a pillow, to help you play the part of the sleeping “Mountain King”

How to adapt/extend:

  • This is a great game to continue playing, away from the screen, once you can remember the words and the melody. Experiment with different actions -- how does your little one want to move through the hall? (jumping, stomping, etc.)

What your child is learning:

  • Following instructions
  • Gross motor skills
