A Musical Spin Around the Globe

Jun 16, 2022

The newest course in the Clap for Classics! All Access membership library is truly an adventure for you and your little one(s)! Join Miss Elizabeth and friends as they travel the globe, learning songs and listening to music from different countries.

What we think you’ll love about this music course:

The Excitement of World Travel: Miss Elizabeth spins the globe and we are transported with a magical blast to 12 different countries! India, China, Japan, El Salvador, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and Italy, Spain, Israel, Philippines, Ukraine.

Learning Foreign Languages. You’ll love learning words and phrases in other languages in a quick, singable way. We know that growing minds are especially well suited to learning foreign languages, so we decided to keep as much foreign language in the course as possible, without making it overwhelming. A little here, a little there and before you know it you’re speaking 6 new languages!

Guest Teachers From Other Countries: We’re happy to welcome guest educators from Australia, India, and Japan to present children’s music from their countries as special additions to this course!

Classical Music Experiences: As always, we love to share classical music in a fun and engaging way. In this course, you and your child will conduct Italian music sung by a children’s choir (Monteverdi), listen to an ancient Chinese instrument called the “Guqin” with ribbon wand sensory and gross motor activities, and dance the Malambo to a thrilling live performance by Argentine composer Ginastera. Perhaps our favorite video of all is “Gazpacho!” a delightful soup-making experience to the music of Bizet’s “Les Toreadors”.

Animals: Isn’t it universal that children just love animals? No wonder so many children’s songs are about animals! You’ll love the song about a sneezing bunny from Israel, a running horse from India, a gray cat from Ukraine, a giant crab from the Philippines, a lazy turtle from El Salvador, and a lizard from Australia.

Low-Prep: The songs and activities in this course are ready to go. You can simply press play and have a wonderful learning experience with your child. Rhythm Sticks, a Ribbon Wand, a Scarf, and a bowl and spoon are all nice accompaniments but not totally necessary (and easy enough to come up with on the fly using household objects).

Extensions: Print out our Continent Cards and our World Map for some extra geography practice. And don’t forget to check out the written notes for easy activity ideas to extend your learning.

The Big Picture: The world is full of humans with different cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds. We are more connected than ever before thanks to modern technology and communication, yet it also feels we are more divided than ever when you consider wars, inequity, and political discord all around the globe. “A Musical Spin Around the Globe” is just a simple experience: learning children’s music from around the world in a playful, educational way. But maybe, just maybe, this simple experience is one step towards nurturing humans who are more connected, empathetic, and aware of one another’s needs and gifts. Imagine a group of world leaders sharing the songs from their childhood with each other. Imagine a group of world leaders singing together. Imagine the possibilities.
