The Gingerbread Man

Dec 22, 2021

Need a cookie activity that doesn’t involve any mess in the kitchen?

This activity will be a great substitute for cookie baking, or addition if you’re brave enough to let your little ones help with the cookies!

Enjoy this story told with music, instruments, and optional printable puppets.

Email me and let you know if you’d like the printables to go with the story!

How to prepare:

Grab some rhythm sticks, a drum, and a scarf

Sit down with your little one and enjoy!

How to adapt/extend:

  • Print the puppets for the story and use the puppets to tell the story while you watch the video.
  • As you tell your own gingerbread story (away from the screen), get creative with the way you use the instruments, and feel free to add more characters for the Gingerbread Man to meet along the way.
  • Make your own gingerbread man cookie(s). Here’s my go-to recipe!
  • Make gingerbread playdough!
  • Try this “Gingerbread Man Sticky Wall” activity

What your child is learning:

- Beat vs. rhythm
- Steady beat
- Following directions
- Phonemic awareness

Music Credit:

Story-Song by Kathryn Lieppman, based on the American fairy tale “The Gingerbread Man” which was originally published in an 1875 magazine issue of St. Nicholas Magazine.
