American Classics Music Course!

Jul 04, 2022

Inside our All Access Membership we have many different music courses with a variety of themes.  Last month we had a blast traveling all around the world listening to music from different countries and learning some words in new languages along the way

We also have a course that explores a wide range of music from the United States of America? Independence Day is upon us and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the history of our country than through a quintessentially American musical experience!

In our “American Classics” course we celebrate lots of different American styles of music, from folk songs to jazz, patriotic standards to Appalachian tunes and even some gospel music!  There is truly something for everyone in this course.

We listen to American music by 3 different composers.   Come dance the hoedown with us as we listen to Aaron Copland! Then, we will identify instruments in an iconic piece by Gershwin, and of course we have to march to some very patriotic Sousa! Did you know that marching not only helps gross motor coordination and balance, but also helps teach your child how to keep a steady beat?

Our special guest teacher in this course is a professional jazz singer that not only performs but also teaches us how to scat! (Scat singing is when you improvise on different syllables that mimic the sounds that instruments make.) We know you and your child will have so much fun making scat sounds!

Have a child who enjoys playing with the flashlight? If so, we’ve got a fun activity we think they will love! We let our light shine with a fun interactive flashlight activity that your kids will not get enough of! One of our favorite ways to develop fine motor coordination, language awareness and inclusivity is through sign language.  We learn sign language to a beautiful Shaker song, Love is Little.  The age-old classic Yankee Doodle gets a silly makeover, Clap for Classics! style!

Kids will be working on so many musical and non-musical skills during this course, but it will just feel like fun to them!  They’ll practice steady beat, beat vs. rhythm, instrument identification, identifying instruments and a theme, phonemic awareness, gross motor skills, following directions, turn-taking, coordination, vocabulary and more!
