Musical Moments Day 1
Parent Notes:
Today for our first of 5 musical moments, we’d like to share a simple “Steady Beat” activity with you. It’s a catchy, simple tune that gives you and your child the opportunity to practice keeping a steady beat, build an understanding of rhythmic values, and reinforce other musical concepts too!
This song is so great because of the many ways you can customize it and adapt it. Use an instrument, use your body, practice musical terms, note values, and more! How else can you customize it? Send me a message with the ways that you and your kids kept a steady beat!
Getting a good grasp on steady beat can take time for some kids. Don’t be frustrated if your child cannot keep the beat yet. You can encourage them with this activity and others, tap their back to the beat, use your hands to help their hands on the drum, but don’t get frustrated if they’re not getting it. For some kids it can take years.
Another way you can work on steady beat with your little one is to simple put on some music and move your body to the beat. You can sway, dance, march, stomp, tip toe depending on what music you’re listening to.
We’ve got a great Steady Beat Spotify playlist for you if you need some inspiration. All the pieces on this playlist have a clear steady beat, great for practicing this important and basic musical concept!
